It is not the right time for ‘Jack Reacher’ to be opening nationwide because of its thematic material and unfortunate similarities to the current events that happened in Newtown, Connecticut. There are plenty of scenes that are hard to watch because they will easily remind you of everything that we are seeing and hearing about that tragedy (there’s even a character named Sandy) and if you can’t get pass that, then it’s better to skip this film. On the other hand if you are able to see past the terrible coincidences this is an action movie that will keep you at the edge of your seat. Read More

From engrossingly existential to plain ol’ dumbed-down is how I would describe the trek from beginning to end in Tom Cruise’s new movie “Oblivion†from director Joseph Kosinski. Overall, “Oblivion†is a good film, but not a great film. It does possess outstanding visuals (Chilean Claudio Miranda is responsible) and another solid performance from Tom Cruise, but the script towards the end, a combination between a novela romance and contrived plot twists, drags the film from a superb movie to just a slightly better than average affair. Arnold Schwarzenegger‘s new movie TEN, directed by David Ayers (End of Watch, Street Kings, Harsh Times), about members of an elite DEA task force that find themselves being taken down one by one after they rob a drug cartel safe house, sees an Arnold playing member John ‘Breacher’ Wharton and looking like a total bad-ass!
Joining Schwarzenegger in the movie is Malin Akerman, Sam Worthington, Joe Manganiello and a few others that fill out the cast nicely.
Schwarzenegger tweeted out today a picture that shows him in DEA uniform holding a M-16 with a cool hair cut and jacked. “I’m having a great time working with @DavidAyerMovies on my new movie, Ten. Check out my look:”
The former Terminator and Governor of California has another 4 movies filming right now and they all look pretty good: Triplets, Unknown Soldier, The Stranger, The Tomb, The Last Stand. They all have a 2013/2014 release date.

Karl Urban plays the character of Judge Dredd on ‘Dredd 3D’ Lionsgate Rated R film, where in a violent futuristic city the police have the authority to act as judge, jury and executioner; he teams up with Anderson (Olivia Thirlby) a trainee to take down a gang that deals a reality-altering drug, called SLO-MO.
The film is derived from John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra successful comic book from the 70’s. Sylvester Stallone played this same character in the film ‘Judge Dredd’ from 1995, which didn’t do so well, but fortunately this one redeems it, as it is one of the best 3D action films that we’ve seen all year thanks to director Pete Travis’ work. I had the opportunity to chat with the star of the film; Karl Urban where he told me about the challenges he encountered as well as what attracted him to the film and the talk of possible sequels. ‘Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol‘ in its second weekend of exhibition in the U.S. has brought together the modest sum of $58.9 million dollars, and this weekend, was no exception as the film starring Tom Cruise hit $26 million dollars at the box office.
On the other hand the production of Warner ‘Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows‘ fails to overcome the aforementioned, and ranks second with $17.8 million dollars in addition to the box office last week.
In third place we see the new sequel to the squirrels chattering ‘Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked‘ that have grossed $50.2 million USD in its two weeks of release.
Seventh place there we see the ashes of ‘New Year’s Eve‘ with the premise that neither have the repartazo that has been able to exceed 50 million dollars budget.
Under the above, we see the animated film ‘Arthur Christmas‘ whose criticism has been mostly positive. The weekend box office below.

The action film ‘Fast Five‘ sped to the top of the box office this weekend, grossing $83.6 million in North America and raising movie studios’ hopes for a profitable summer after a lackluster spring.
The Fast and Furious saga just beat its own record in the United States. ‘Fast Five’ takes no less than $83.6 billion in its U.S. debut in theaters. The biggest success so far this year for any production in its first week.
“Fast Five“ also set a record as the best debut ever for a month in April, surpassing its predecessor “Fast and Furious 4“, which debuted with $71 million at the box office two years ago.
In second place is the second highest grossing film of 2011 “Rio“ with $39.2 million. “Rio“ slipped to No. 2 this weekend, with $14.4 million.
In third place was the comedy “Tyler Perry‘s Madea‘s Big Happy Family“, with $10.1 million.
Here are the 10 highest grossing films of this past weekend.
