Complete Oscar 2015 Nominations List

01.15.2015 | By |

It was a big morning for the 87th edition of the Oscars. BIRDMAN amassed the most amount of nominations with 9, as well as the artistic comedy THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL. I’ve been predicting big for THE IMITATION GAME and it came in huge with 8 nominations, but the big surprise came with AMERICAN SNIPER with 6 nods as well as BOYHOOD with 6. But no bigger pleasure is the small indie that could – WHIPLASH received a whopping 5 nominations.  Read More

The Best Movies Of 2014 By Genre

12.25.2014 | By |

For the second straight year, I thought of making “The Best Movies Of 2014… By Genre“. Unlike most Top 10 lists you see this time of year from some websites or critics, I use a list that allows you to reference movies by your mood. In other words, if you’re feeling like laughing or snuggling up with someone, you can check our top movie in comedy or romance, etc. I believe these guides are much more to the point of the movie viewing experience. So let’s get to it!

10.18.2014 | By |

The 1-4-0: #Birdman is one of the best movies of 2014. It’s a psychological dark dramedy that probes themes of relevance and the ephemerality of success. Read More

This Week In Movies: ‘Fury,’ ‘Dear White People,’ ‘Birdman’

10.13.2014 | By |

We’re in the middle of October and films are beginning to become better. Some of the most compelling pieces are Brad Pitt’s war movie Fury (interested to know if it will be a Monuments Men failure or an Oscar buzz piece of cinema), Mexican director Jorge R. Gutierrez animation The Book Of Life (which has Guillermo del Toro on board as producer), plus the aspiring Best Pic Birdman from another Mexican director in Alejandro González Iñárritu. In Dear White People, this witty, smart film which tackles racism and prejudice, is easily one of the more interesting films to see this week. After the jump, you’ll see a list ranked by order of my interest. Read More

Is Alejandro González Iñárritu’s next film a comedy?

12.7.2012 | By |

Ben Affleck‘s favorite director, Mexican helmer Alejandro Gonzalez Iñárritu, is leeaving all the heavy depressing, multi-story dramas to make… a comedy. You heard that right, a comedy.

The name of the movie will be BIRDMAN and its premise will be about a former actor, who once played an iconic superhero, as he mounts a Broadway play in a bid to reclaim past glory. The movie will take place in one location over the course of three days as the actor juggles family, career and his sanity.. That sounds it’ll be either a hit or an embarassing failure. Nevertheless, I don’t mind evolution and aspiring to be more versatile.

Iñárritu said he co-wrote the film with Nicolas Giacobone, Alexander Dinelaris and Armando Bo and is eyeing a start in March.

Word is he still is planning The Revenant with Leonardo DiCaprio, but there is no pre-production date set to start.
