As the dust settles on the 95th Annual Academy Award nominations, I had a chance to visit my friends at PIX11 News, Marysol Castro and Chris Cimino, to break it down. One thing is clear: the sci-fi epic, Everything Everywhere All at Once, is the film to beat. With a whopping 11 nominations, it has more than any other film this year. Top Gun received 7 nominations, but Tom Cruise was snubbed… again.

Finally, the much anticipated first trailer of “Dune,” based on Frank Herbert’s sci-fi books from 1965, is here. The film stars Oscar Isaac, Javier Bardem, Dave Bautista, Zendaya Coleman, Jason Momoa, Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, amongst others.

The 2018 Tony nominations have been announced and four Latinos were nominated – John Leguizamo, Ariana DeBose, Lindsay Mendez, and Chita Rivera (Lifetime Achievement). Leading the list with 12 nominations are the new musicals Mean Girls and SpongeBob SquarePants. The 72nd Annual Tony Awards, hosted by Sara Bareilles and Josh Groban, will be held at Radio City Music Hall on June 10. The ceremony will be telecast live on CBS. Read More

The 75th Annual Golden Globe Nominations are out. On Monday, December 11th at 8:15 am, the Globes announced via its webstream its 2018 nominations. Latinos reigned supreme with Mexican director Guillermo del Toro’s “The Shape of Water” which is nominated for 7 Golden Globe awards. Pixar’s “Coco” was nominated for two including Best Original Song and Chile scored a nod with Sebastián Lelio’s A Fantastic Woman in the Foreign Film category. Read More

As is the tradition every year, the Recording Academy selected their nominations of the best of the best in music across 84 categories. For this site’s purposes, we will focus only on the Hispanic nominees which have been nominated in 20 categories this year, many more than we have seen in previous years. With Bruno Mars (Puerto Rican heritage) nominated for six awards and Despacito‘s bilingual version nominated for three, including Justin Bieber, we are seeing one of the great years for Latinos in music.
