Kate Del Castillo Says ‘La Reina del Sur’ Film Is In The Works

03.8.2013 | By |

Perhaps the most popular and talented Mexican actress in cinema right now is Kate del Castillo. Her versatility to do theater, television, and movies, in Spanish or English, has positioned her for a bright future in Hollywood.

Her latest movie is “K-11” from novice director Jules Stewart, Kristen Stewart’s mother. Del Castillo plays Mousey, a transgender inmate who is volatile and territorial. I had a chance to converse with Kate for 20 minutes about the broad spectrum of her career, but also deep-dive into questions of where does this K-11 role rank in her career, her encounter with Twilight’s Kristen Stewart, how Hollywood perceives her, her discomfort with comfort and if that La Reina del Sur dramelicula is ever going to be made into a real theatrical movie by Universal Pictures.  Read More

Exclusive! First look 'K-11' poster with Kate del Castillo!

You “La Reina del Sur” telenovela fans are going to love me today! I just got my hands on the exclusive first look character poster of “K-11” with Mexican actress Kate del Castillo!

Jules Stewart, mother to Twilight star Kristen, directs del Castillo in this drama that tells the story of a man’s plight after winding up in K-11, the Los Angeles County Jail’s transgender inmate unit.

Jules Stewart and K-11 producers are being smart about capitalizing on Latino moviegoers by casting the very talented Kate del Castillo. From what I can gather, this looks like Kate’s most challenging role to date where she is showcasing her ability to play very layered characters. Kate is a thespian and in this movie she’s unforgettable!  Read More

Ric Waugh: "Snitch is Dwayne Johnson’s ‘Fugitive’"

02.20.2013 | By |

Transcription done by Mariana Dussan.

Ric Roman Waugh’sSnitch” will be known as the movie that saw the evolution of Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson from action star to dramatic actor. His perfomance is rooted in acting and not punches thrown or heads cracked and his audience will judge, via the box office, whether he did well or not.

Waugh is confident that they will enjoy it and that the film he created possesses a fine balance between story and entertainment value. His first foray into film was a very lauded movie called “Felon” which received much praise from actors and Hollywood insiders alike. He used to be a former movie stuntman, from a family of stuntmen, who has brought his skill and vision to create some suspenseful action sequences in the denoument of ‘Snitch’.   Read More

First audience film reaction to Jenni Rivera’s ‘Filly Brown’!

02.15.2013 | By |

First audience film reaction to Jenni Rivera's 'Filly Brown'!

Following is the film reaction of Jenni Rivera’s captivating performance in Edward James Olmos ‘Filly Brown’ from a woman named Monica Trujillo. The movie will be released April 26, 2013 nationwide, and it had a screening in Sundance in January, but the overall press has not seen it. This gives us a chance to be one of the first media outlets to share with you Monica’s thoughts on Rivera’s riveting performance and the movie which will surely be one of the Latino highlights in Hollywood this year.

“I had the honor to see Filly Brown the movie in October 2011 in Las Vegas, NV  for a private viewing. I didn’t know any of the cast but I had the pleasure to meet Edward James Olmos, Khool Aid Rios and Youseff Delara one of the directors. Mr. Olmos took a picture with me and was so gracious and very down to earth! Khool Aid joked with me and i had a nice conversation with Mr. Delara. I actually went to see a viewing of the other movie showed that day. A very good friend of mine is Baldemar Rodriguez and he is promoting his move “In search of the American Dream.”  Read More

John Ortiz: "Bradley Cooper deserved to be nominated"

John Ortiz: "Bradley Cooper deserved to be nominated"

Transcription done by Mariana Dussan.

As The Weinstein Company is making an invigorated Oscar push to drive their dramedy “Silver Linings Playbook” to a historic upset over the leading favorite front-runner in “Argo” in the Best Picture category, I had a lengthy and very enjoyable discussion with one of its co-stars – Puerto Rican thespian John Ortiz who plays Ronnie, best friend to Bradley Cooper in the film.

With over 20 years in the business, Ortiz has consolidated himself as one of the most dependable Hispanic actors in Hollywood. His oustanding character actor work such as Guajiro in Carlito’s Way, Juan Abreu in Before Night Falls, Octavio in NARC, Jose Yero in Miami Vice, amongst many others, puts him, well poised to be a part of the Oscar discussion in the next 10 years, the way Demián Bichir was in 2011. Exclusive! Argo’s Real Tony Mendez: “I’m Not Hispanic”

01.10.2013 | By |

For the Latino moviegoers who have already seen Argo or those who will now see it due to the 7 Oscar nominations it received today from the Academy, you might be submerged into the controversy that has arisen from the big reveal in the movie… Ben Affleck who directs and stars in “Argo“, is named Tony Mendez, an obvious Latino. So why did Affleck (an Irish guy) play him as opposed to a true Latino actor? What did Tony Mendez, the real life CIA agent that inspired the film, think? And is he really Latino (I couldn’t find any detailed news on his heritage on the web)? Many Latinos are upset at Affleck’s logic here so I decided to go to the main source – Mendez himself. In this exclusive interview, I asked him about his Latino roots, Affleck’s decision not to hire a Latino thespian to play the lead role and much, much more. Read More

Jessica Chastain on horror movies: "They’re fun to cuddle"

Jessica Chastain on horror movies: "They're fun to cuddle"

The Guillermo del Toro produced supernatural thriller “MAMA” will be out in theaters January 18th starring Jessica Chastain, a huge win for the Spanish origin movie since Chastain will most likely be nominated and win an Oscar for Best Actress for “Zero Dark Thirty”.

Chastain plays Annabel, who takes care of two little girls who disappeared into the woods the day that their parents were killed.  When they are rescued years later and begin a new life, they find that someone or something still wants to come tuck them in at night.

When I caught up with her recently during a press day for “MAMA” I asked her what it is that people like about horror films.

“I like them because they’re fun to cuddle,” Chastain said. “Here’s the thing, I don’t like going to slasher films where people get cut up. Some of those films are fine, but I don’t like that, it makes me feel weird. But I like horror films like “The Exorcist” or “The Others” or “The Orphanage” or “The Ring”. I like the ones that build the tension really strongly because I do like to cuddle. I like to see a film with… if you don’t have a partner with you or a boyfriend or whatever, a group of friends, it’s fun to have that kind of experience.”

The Heiress” actress from Broadway gave me a surprisingly personalized answer, as she gave some insight into her love life. According to the reactions on her face, it sounded as if no one at the moment filled the role of providing a strong shoulder during scary scenes, of perhaps, her own movie “MAMA”.

Synopsis: Five years ago, sisters Victoria and Lilly vanished from their suburban neighborhood without a trace.  Since then, their Uncle Lucas (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) and his girlfriend, Annabel (Jessica), have been madly searching for them.  But when, incredibly, the kids are found alive in a decrepit cabin, the couple wonders if the girls are the only guests they have welcomed into their home. As Annabel tries to introduce the children to a normal life, she grows convinced of an evil presence in their house.  Are the sisters experiencing traumatic stress, or is a ghost coming to visit them?  How did the broken girls survive those years all alone?  As she answers these disturbing questions, the new mother will find that the whispers she hears at bedtime are coming from the lips of a deadly presence.

Why do you think people like horror movies so much? Tell us what you think in the comments!
