In my weekly syndicated radio segment on the Luis Jimenez Show, “Lengua, Cámara y Acción,” on X96.3FM IN NY, I broke down Jennifer Lopez‘s new low budget thriller and the fact that the new iPhone 5S came out. Will people buy it? Also, after Jared Leto revealed he lost 40lbs for his role in “The Dallas Buyers Club” with a no eating diet, are actors weight losses getting ridiculous? Listen to the radio segment now! Watch: Jennifer Lopez talks NUVOtv launch

07.22.2013 | By |

When I first heard that Jennifer Lopez was becoming a TV executive, I must confess, I thought it was just marketing hype. But after a very good upfront presentation and a stream of articles on the programming front, I have to personally congratulate her for really making this new venture real.

As partner and Chief Creative Officer of NUVOtv (bicultural network for US Hispanics), Lopez is in charge of contributing programming to the network, work on strategy and assist in marketing.

I just received a video of Lopez herself talking about the new NUVOtv launch. Watch it above! Read More

Jennifer Lopez back at work in "The Back-Up Plan"

06.15.2009 | By |

Jennifer Lopez back at work in "The Back-Up Plan"

After taking a break to spend time with her twins, Jennifer Lopez is back on the scene filming her next movie, The Back Up Plan.

Lopez will be filming scenes this week for the movie at 400 Colorado Bl, Pasadena.

“The Back-Up Plan” is about a woman (Lopez) who plays pet shop owner Zoe, an unlucky in love woman who is desperate for a child. She decides to conceive using artificial insemination, but meets love interest Stan, played by Alex O’Loughlin, soon after.

Jennifer Lopez says she is petrified she will “forget how to act”.

The 39-year-old star, who has 15-month-old twins Max and Emme with husband Marc Anthony, is currently shooting her first movie for three years, and was worried she would struggle to readjust to working life.

Despite her initial nerves, Lopez soon fell back into the swing of movie making.

She said: “I bring the babies to work with me. I love it. Honestly, one of the best days of my life was the first day back working on this film.

“I wanted to do this film really badly and bringing my babies with me that first morning, I was like, ‘Oh my God, they’re with me, I’m making a movie, they’re here!’ It’s great having kids on set. It’s the best.”

Jennifer Lopez to star in ‘In the Heights’?

01.27.2009 | By |

Jennifer Lopez to star in 'In the Heights'?

According to Page Six today, Lopez met with producer Meryl Poster, who as we understand, will be producing the film version of ‘In the Heights’, a Latino musical about the joys, heartbreaks and bonds of a Latino community struggling to redefine home.

The question is can her ‘talents’ handle Broadway? The truth is her singing voice is frail, her speaking voice is soft and she’s a mediocre actress at best, so how do you explain her success? Jennifer Lopez is an extremely charming woman on camera, with reporters and fans alike. The phenomenon is called compensation. People who are average at a specific task have to work harder at achieving their dreams and goals through other means. She does this amazingly well!

An artist in order to be successful needs to understand and be aware of their strengths and limitations. Lopez, who has made great decisions throughout her career, has to recognize her shortcomings, and I’m assuming she realizes that the demands of being on Broadway is too much for her voice day in and day out. A limited run on 2008’s Best Musical ‘In the Heights’ wouldn’t be appalling, but she’ll fully expose her artistic weaknesses if she does any time longer than a month.

Here’s the Page Six article:

“COULD Jennifer Lopez be trying to restart her acting career by hitting Broadway? Insiders say Lopez is interested in starring in “In the Heights,” the musical about Washington Heights. She went to the show twice last week and accompanied the producer, Meryl Poster, to dinner Friday evening at Nobu 57, where they discussed roles. Another insider said Lopez might be more interested in a movie version, as Broadway shows are exhausting and time consuming, and Poster also produced the screen version of “Chicago.” A rep for Lopez said, “She loves the play but is not Broadway bound.”

A cinematic hip-hop Latino musical for Lopez would be a sage choice, but I’m not sure at her age (39 at the time of this article), she can play any of the young leads.

We’ll have to see what exchange of ideas were discussed at this dinner meeting. Nevertheless, this charming woman still has a lot to offer the entertainment world and all will patiently await her next move.

Jennifer Lopez returns to film with a ‘Plan B’

12.16.2008 | By |

Jennifer Lopez returns to film with a 'Plan B'

Jennifer Lopez may have just given birth, but she’s all in favor of Plan B.

After taking time off her busy film career to play mama to fraternal twins Emme and Max (born last February), the A-lister has signed on to topline a fertility-themed romantic comedy for CBS Films.

Per Variety, Lopez will play a single woman who, unlucky in love, resorts to artificial insemination to have a child only to wind up falling for Mr. Right on the day she learns she’s pregnant.

Plan B, written by Kate Angelo, is slated to start shooting in April or May. Also in the pipeline for 2009, J.Lo is attached to star in The Governess, playing a thief who poses as a nanny to a wealthy widower in order to pull off the job of a lifetime.

Jennifer Lopez is replaced by Natalie Portman in "Love"

10.28.2008 | By |

Jennifer Lopez is replaced by Natalie Portman in "Love"

Natalie Portman is falling in love — and salvaging quiet little films along the way. According to Variety, Portman is set to star in “Love and Other Impossible Pursuits” alongside Scott Cohen and Charlie Tahan. She will play a young woman named Emelia, who must cope with the loss of her infant daughter, while trying to raise her gifted five-year-old stepson, William, and salvage her rocky marriage. The film will be directed by Don Roos for Incentive Filmed Entertainment, and is based on the novel by Ayelet Waldman.

The role originally belonged to Jennifer Lopez, who’s abrupt departure nearly destroyed the film altogether. Portman rescued the film by taking the lead not only onscreen, but behind the scenes — she’s executive producing the film under her banner, Handsomecharlie Films.

David Molner, head of Incentive, can’t say enough about Portman for backing the film. “We were left in the lurch by one actress and rescued by another,” he told the trade. “It goes to show that, particularly with independent features, nothing is more important than the talent. It’s a blessing that Natalie loved the script and now we’ve got a strong film that we can sell.”

This should be a meaty role for Portman, as Emilia is a prickly and unlikeable character, a contrast from many of the roles she’s played in the past. Her progress from precocious “Star Wars” heroine to Hollywood power player has been an exciting one — and hopefully, this will be one of many indie films she’ll carry to the finish line.

For all those in love with Portman — can you handle seeing her as an unlikeable heroine, or do you wish she would stick to playing dream girlfriends? Are you intrigued by her taking on more work behind the scenes, or do you wish she would stay in front of the camera?

Jennifer Lopez in 'Sex and the City' sequel?

Jennifer Lopez wants to appear in the next ‘Sex and the City’ movie.’

‘The Wedding Planner’ star was a huge fan of the hit US TV show, and always wanted a cameo role, but is now hoping to be cast in the movie sequel. She is quoted as saying: “I adore the show and nearly popped up in the TV show, but then did ‘Will and Grace’ instead.”

A source said: “Jennifer has got her heart set on joining Carrie and the girls. The bosses are trying to think of a way of fitting her in without it being cheesy.” If Jennifer gets her wish, she wouldn’t be the first celebrity to appear in ‘Sex and the City’.

Actress Heather Graham and supermodel Heidi Klum both played themselves in past episodes. Former Spice Girls star Geri Halliwell appeared on the show in 2003, while her ex-bandmate Victoria Beckham is rumoured to have been lined up for the next film.
