“Fox and Friends” To Career Women: “Don’t Speak Loud.” 5 Other #FacePalm, Sexists Moments On The Show

07.9.2014 | By |

“Fox and Friends” is always on the lookout for women with helpful everyday tips, which are nicely complimented by co-host Brian Kilmeade’s thoughts…not!

This past Monday, on a segment of the weekday talk show, Sylvia Ann Hewlett, author of the book “Executive Presence,” explained that in order to get a promotion, women should follow a set of rules, which include: to not “raise your voice under pressure.”

As a professional woman I can certify that the premise of Hewlett’s bullet point holds truth and for both genders, the problem with the segment comes as Kilmeade states what he took away: “Keep it low, don’t speak loud.”

NO! Women (nor men) should never yell, but they should have a strong and assertive tone – NOT be soft spoken – in order to escalate the ranks.

Of course, this is not the first time that the show has sounded like something out of the 50’s when it comes to views on women, their thoughts, rights and actions. Here are five other examples of “Fox and Friends” being everyone’s favorite sexists show on TV:

5. Susan Patton, author of the book “Marry Smart,” suggests how wives can keep their husbands happy.

The Conversation: “When did it happen when men and husbands became doormats?” Steve Doocy asked The Princeton Mom. “It’s about the woman’s self-esteem, her career!”

“The first thing I tell young women…is be nice, stop acting like such an entitled princess,” she said. “Recognize there are many women who missed their opportunity entirely to marry and have children…If you are in your mid-30s or older the idea that you’re going to find yourself another husband, is almost impossible.”

My Thoughts: 1. Yes, some women have careers, 2. Some might not want (by personal choice) a husband and kids, and 3. Respect should be mutual.

4. Fox News medical contributor Dr. David Samadhi argues that women should pay higher healthcare premiums.

The Conversation: “[Women] go through a lot of preventive screenings, they give birth, they have the whole mammogram, pap smears,” he explains. Guys, we don’t like to go to doctors…”

“Well, what about the fact that women, because they do all of this preventive medical care, maybe their health issues end up costing less than men’s…?”Gretchen Carlson asked.

“That’s a good point, except that women live longer…so [men] are using the healthcare system much less,” Samadhi responded.

My Thoughts: Well Doc, how about women start getting equal or even higher wages first?

3. Rush Limbaugh defends being selected as one of the judges at the Miss America Pageant.

The Conversation: “I’m a huge supporter of women,” the conservative American radio talk show host and political commentator told Gretchen Carlson. “What I’m not is a supporter of liberalism. Feminism is what I oppose. Feminism has led women astray. I love the women’s movement especially when I’m walking behind it.”

My Thoughts: Pig!

2. Mark Rudolf, relationship coach and self-proclaimed anti feminist, agrees that Ladies’ Night is gender discrimination and illegal.

The conversation: “Why don’t they go check…insurance companies that will pay for Viagra but not birth control…and we’re still getting paid 77 cents on the dollar,” Lies Whiel, the second invited guest and Fox News Legal Analyst said.

“You can’t argue with those points because they are totally fallacious,” Rufold responded.

Then Gretchen Carlon asks: “You go to Ladies’ Night, you get a lot of women who come to the bar, do men like that?”

And he said: “What you’re doing is reinforcing the point I’ve always made that dating is legal prostitution.”

“First of all, get a life,” Whiel told Rudolf. “If you want a free drink so much just put on a wig and call yourself Margie and go to the bar.”

My Thoughts: Well said Whiel!

1. Kilmeade makes sexist joke.

The Conversation: “Women are everywhere,” he said. “We’re letting them play golf and tennis now. It’s out of control.”

After the comment Gretchen Carlson walked off the set, but in a later segment she explained that she was also kidding when she did so.

My Thoughts: Why does this guy still have a job?
