Best Sci-Fi Film: When James Cameron says that Gravity is “the best space film ever done,” well, what else do you have to say? In my humble opinion, Alfonso Cuarón’s Gravity is the best space movie I have seen. It is perfect. It is outstanding at every level, from Cuarónâs groundbreaking state-of-the-art direction to the convincing performances to the edge-of-your-seat thrill ride script, finding a problem with this film will be almost impossible. What is even more outstanding is the perfect balance between high valued commercial entertainment and artistic filmmaking. Itâs 3D is breathtaking and revolutionary, you empathize with the characters, you’re wowed by the visual grandeur, your heart pounds at its relentless claustrophobic pace and you canât believe you experienced all of it in 90 minutes. It’s frightening, harrowing, and uplifting.
One of the most important film festivals in the world is the Toronto International Film Festival. Out of the more than 300 movies presented there, we are giving you what we consider were the Top 10! Some films that garnered a ton of buzz going in, but couldn’t maintain it going out. Some of those were August: Osage County, Labor Day, The Fifth Estate, Life of Crime and The F Word. If we had a Top 20, I would have added them. In the meantime enjoy The Top 10 Best Films From TIFF 2013!Read More
This Friday I spoke to Luis Jimenez about Vin Diesel’s new movie RIDDICK as well as the two new US Latino movies MISSION PARK and TIO PAPI. What is the best movie for you? Here’s the audio below and find out for yourself!
Peliculeando airs every Friday at 9:50 a.m. giving reviews on the latest film releases in Spanish with some English thrown in. You can listen to my segment live on Univision Radio’s X 96.3FM in New York or the web by visiting: http://luisjimenezradio.com.
This trailer looks pretty awesome. Reminds me of the Dredd remake which I thought was one of the best action films of 2012. In this remake of the 1987 movie, the plot remains almost the same.Read More

September marks the end of summer movies in Hollywood and begins its transition towards the release of award winning films. Note my use of the word transition. Utilizing that word means that September only possesses 2 movies that have any real aspirations at being nominated or winning anything come Oscar time – Salinger for Best Documentary and Prisoners for a few nominations. This month also brings a plethora of documentaries. Almost half of the films on this list are documentaries. The rise in the genre is getting stronger by the year and I feel is becoming our new literature for facts. Ironically, Michael Moore, the best representative of the genre is nowhere to be found. You will find on this list everything from one of James Gandolfini’s final performances on film, The Beatles back on the screen and the mysterious universe of bodybuilding. Without further delay, here are the 12 Must See Movies of September!Read More
Walter Perez and Fernanda Romero in ‘Mission Park’
Sixteen movie releases. This is one of the rare weeks where half of the new Hollywood releases are documentaries and my most anticipated viewing is a documentary as well – Salinger. What is it? Perhaps it’s the Labor Day dates that aren’t too kind to studio pockets, perhaps it’s the public demand for more informative films and less escapism. “Why read a book when you can watch the documentary?” Or maybe it’s just a coincidence. Whatever the principal reason is, blockbuster films are about to become persona non-grata in the next few months when Oscar season rears its head for the Fall. An interesting note is that after the success of the Latino movie “Instructions Not Included,” Hollywood will have their eyes wide open for Tio Papi and Mission Park‘s results.
Below is the list of all the movies coming out this weekend and I rank them in descending order of my interests.
Hollywood woke up early this week to the story that Eugenio Derbez’s dramedy ‘Instructions Not Included‘ cracked the top 5 movies at the box office this Labor Day weekend. It opened on just 347 screens, and earned $21,614 per theater, more than any other film this weekend! In my weekly syndicated radio segment on the Luis Jimenez Show, “Lengua, Cámara y Acción,” on X96.3FM IN NY, I broke down WHY the movie did so surprisingly well. I also tackled the CBS/Time Warner resolution and discuss the “Fifty Shades of Grey” casting choices! Listen to the radio segment now!
“Lengua, Cámara y Acción” is a radio segment that is a free flowing conversation on Hollywood and the entertainment industry with a dash of wit, humor and information with Jack Rico and radio star, Luis Jimenez. This way, you can keep abreast of what’s happening in Hollywood with a smile. “Lengua, Cámara y Acción” is broadcast every Tuesday at 9:50 AM on X96.3FM.
Charlie Hunnam and Dakota Johnson in ‘Fifty Shades Of Grey’
So I guess it wasn’t Matt Bomer or Mila Kunis. The new movie adaptation ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ has casted its new leads. They are Dakota Johnson (Ben and Kato will e, The Social Network) who will play Anastasia Steele and Charlie Hunnam (Pacific Rim, Sons of Anarchy) who landed the coveted role of Christian Grey.Read More
